I love both neighbourhoods, they have wonderful neighbours and each offer their own benefits. We are in the process of planning a neighbourhood community association, which I honestly want for fun community events and to get to know even more neighbours. It also is beneficial for a coordinated communication strategy with other neighbourhoods and organizations. Our first event (I hope) will be the street party on June 17, 2017. I'll need help and luckily am surrounded by some incredible leaders so if you get a call with say yes!
In a community that is known to be transient and ever changing I feel that we can all work towards building that community feel for where we live. Coming from the small Town of Athabasca (max population of 3,000), as a kid, it was quite annoying that everyone knew me and talked to my parents about me and my comings and goings. As an adult, I see the safety net that I was afforded and was completely unaware of and ungrateful for. As someone who is hoping to adopt one or more children, having a community safety net becomes more and more essential. In this last move I was so fortunate that I was moving to a neighbourhood where I had already developed friends, acquaintances and comfort. Like your first day at school, there is always that trepidation that those around you may not accept you, or worse, shun you. I hope that no one ever feels shunned on Falcon. If you do, come see me, I'll accept you.

What were the happy moments? What were the sad? What would you do again, and what wouldn't you do? - Victor Frankl I think of my grandfather very often, every time I see a butterfly, it reminds me that he is always with me, watching over me. I think about whether he felt his life was fulfilled, and the most importantly did know how much he was loved. I believe he was, but it give me pause to consider those two things prior to my end point, whenever that may be.
Thus, the bucket list:

About me
I grew up in Athabasca, AB and have spent the majority of my life in Northern Alberta or Montreal, PQ. My husband has been in Fort McMurray since the 70s and continues to love this town and all that it has to offer. We are avid outdoor enthusiasts, spending our summer weekends quadding and camping. As Opimian members we thoroughly enjoy wine pairings and tastings and are working on our wine collection. Ralph is a carpenter by trade and has framed more houses in Fort McMurray than I could count and knows the city inside and out. I work all throughout the region from the NWT to Janvier for the tribal council. My passion is doodling and photography which is featured throughout the website (various mediums), writing, Indigenous studies, and learning in general. Categories |
